Recalling an incident of unwanted sexual attention, a video of Sandhya Mridul narrating the incident in a poem has surfaced online. The Angry Indian Goddesses actor is on stage, telling her tales of being a single woman, her experiences, specifically with those who hide behind the veil of the word ‘friends’, but judge her for being unmarried, single, and sleeping with whoever she chooses. The video is from 2015, from a performance event, The Storytellers, organised by Kommune India.

“Single hot women have great bodies and they’re going to do bad things with them.”
Sandhya Mridul, Artiste

Mridul refers to the monikers she has been associated with - from ‘Sexy Sandy’ to ‘that bit*h’, and manages to make her point strikingly.

“She may sleep with her mistakes, but at least she didn’t marry them.”
Sandhya Mridul

She calls out married people who keep trying to shame their single friends for their choices, she calls out strangers who prey on them. She talks about sex, and Sex In The City. She talks about a party at which she was molested.

“Every party is a victory, every party is a story; because single women are bad women, and we’re always gonna tell stories like this one.”
Sandhya Mridul, Artiste

(The Quint, in association with BitGiving, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for an 8-month-old who was raped in Delhi on 28 January 2018. The baby girl, who we will refer to as 'Chhutki', was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin when her parents were away. She has been discharged from AIIMS hospital after undergoing three surgeries, but needs more medical treatment in order to heal completely. Her parents hail from a low-income group and have stopped going to work so that they can take care of the baby. You can help cover Chhutki's medical expenses and secure her future. Every little bit counts. Click here to donate.)
