Salman Khan, who is just back in town on bail after being convicted in the Blackbuck poaching case, is all set to make his debut as a television producer. And guess what? The show is based on the lives of Mumbai cops when they are off duty and the sacrifices they make for their job.
According to Mumbai Mirror, the yet-to-be-named show will air on Sony TV in May. The shoot has already begun in a Mumbai studio. The cop drama will star Mukul Dev and Pooja Gor in the lead roles. It’s being directed by Mahesh Limaye, the National Award-winning director of the 2014 Marathi film Yellow. Limaye has also worked with Salman on Dabangg and Dabangg 2 as a cinematographer. The show is being written by Sridhar Raghavan.
The show might indeed turn a much-needed spotlight on the lives of Maximum City’s cops, and being a Salman Khan project, one might expect a quality production. But let’s not miss the irony here. Bhai, the quintessential bad boy of Bollywood with endless face-offs with the law producing a cop drama is a bit of a laugh, isn’t it? Is it plain old creativity at play here or just another clever ploy to boost Bhai’s “Being Human”-ness in the public eye?
