Salman Khan recently came to TV actor Hina Khan’s defense after Filmfare magazine editor mocked the latter by putting up an Instagram story that said: “Cannes has suddenly become chandivali studios kya?”. At a media event recently, Salman Khan was asked to comment on the controversy. Here’s what he said:
“This is very responsible of the editor to make a comment like that, so thoughtful. I don’t understand - what did he want to say? Cannes is Chandivali or Chandivali is going to Cannes?”
Here’s the story put up by Filmfare magazine editor Jitesh Pillai:
Eventually, Hina Khan, who recently made a breathtaking debut at the 72nd Cannes International Film Festival, took to Twitter to give a befitting response to Jitesh’s comment.
She wrote: “I was persistent, I m constant n I will b efficient again n again again. Don’t know where I belong, don’t know if I have to, as d Place don’t define me! Bcause as always I will work my a** off n I will make my own PLACE. My promise,a proud outsider from my Chandiwali studios.”
Many members of the film and television fraternity then took to social media to express support for Hina Khan and even speak out against Jitesh Pillai’s comment. Including the likes of Rajeev Masand, Ekta Kapoor and Farah Khan.
Kangana’s sister Rangoli Chandel to point out that Jitesh Pillai was only “humiliating” Hina only because she was an outsider.
“Look at him, an actor has gone to a film festival purely cos of her hardwork to present her film and here @jiteshpillaai Moushi ji humiliating her that too openly just cause she is an outsider, this is movie mafia and that’s why Kangana has pledged to destroy them,” wrote Rangoli on Twitter.
Jitesh Pillai then took to Instagram to clarify and apologise to Hina Khan.
“My apologies to Hina Khan. My Instaa caption has been grossly misconstrued. I would never ever belittle an artiste,” he wrote on Instagram. He further said that his remark was “meant to suggest that Cannes has become Bollywood centric.” And that as a reporter who spent a lot of time in places like Chandivali studios in the beginning of his career, he would never look down at it.
Hina Khan also responded to Jitesh’s apology by thanking him for acknowledging the issue.
Television actor Hina Khan made her much-awaited Cannes debut on 15 May and she looked like total princess while doing so. Dressed in a floor-length shimmery silver gown, the Kasautii Zindagii Kay actor was all smiles as she waved and smiled for everyone present.
