Recently, PV Sindhu defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in straight games by 21-7, 21-7 to win the BWF World Championships 2019 in Basel, and the elusive gold medal after having to settle for silver in the last two years. The 24-year-old also became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the BWF World Championships.
After this historic achievement, rumours started floating around that a biopic on PV Sindhu is in the works and Akshay Kumar will be essaying the role of her coach Pullela Gopichand. Though nothing about the film has been officially confirmed, Gopichand is ecstatic about the idea.
“I really love Akshay Kumar. If he is playing my role it is fantastic because Akshay is an actor I admire. He has met PV Sindhu on many occasions and encouraged her too. However, I am not sure about the film”, Pullela Gopichand told India Today. Gopichand is the chief national coach for the Indian badminton team.
Akshay Kumar and other Bollywood celebrities had taken to Twitter to congratulate PV Sindhu for her big win. “Heartiest congratulations, PV Sindhu on becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal at the #BWFWorldChampionships2019. What a feat to achieve, you completely smashed it,” Akshay wrote.
Sindhu had also posted an emotional message on Instagram. “I could not hold back my tears when I saw the Indian flag and heard the national anthem playing. Words can’t express my feelings about the win at the World Championship. Had been preparing for it for so long. Finally, the wait ended,” she wrote.

“It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my parents, my coaches (Gopi sir and Ms Kim) and my trainer (Mr Srikanth Verma). And most importantly, I would like to thank my sponsors and all my fans who have supported me all along. FINALLY WORLD CHAMPION 2019”, she added.
Another film on Sindhu has been in the works for two years now. It is being produced by Sonu Sood and he will also play Pullela Gopichand.
