There have been a lot of speculations about Priyanka Chopra and Meghan Markle’s feud. But putting all speculations at rest, Priyanka has come out in support of her friend Meghan, and called out the racism that she has been subjected to.
Since Meghan Markle’s relationship with Prince Harry was made public in 2017, trolls have targeted the Duchess of Sussex, who is of mixed race, with racist remarks. It even prompted the Royal family to delete some comments from their Instagram accounts.
Now, in an interview to the Sunday Times, Priyanka said that the social media criticism of Markle is “really unfortunate.”
She was asked if the insults were rooted in the inability of people to accept a biracial woman at the heart of the monarchy. To which Priyanka replied, “For sure, 100%. Of course it has to do with racism. But the beauty of Meg is that she's been herself through all of this. A lot of people got to know her after she started dating Harry, but I knew her before and she's the same chick.”
Supporting her friend, Priyanka said, “If there's anyone who can handle it, it's her.”
The actor also spoke about Meghan using the platform she has to encourage dialogue. “Now that she's got a real platform, she talks about the same things she always did. We have spoken at length about the difference influence and dialogue can make to the world before this thing happened, so what you see now is authentically her. She has been the girl who always wanted to move the needle.”
Rumours about Meghan and Priyanka sparked in December when the Duchess, who was pregnant with Archie, did not attend Priyanka and Nick Jonas’ wedding. However, Priyanka dismissed the rumours on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in March.
