In 2016, actor and filmmaker, Pooja Bhatt quit drinking in an attempt to overcome her alcohol addiction and came clean about her struggle. “I was 45 and if I wanted to give myself 10 years of living, I had to quit now before I drank myself to the grave. I had to reclaim the sharper, brighter me which had got watered down,” Pooja told Mumbai Mirror.

Trust a fanatic troll to pick on her past and dismiss her efforts towards recuperating and redeeming her life with his ‘whataboutery’. When Bhatt reacted to Amitabh Bachchan’s unwillingness to address the Kathua and Unnao rape cases, a troll referred to her as a raging alcoholic.

But the actor shut him down like a boss with the hashtag 485 days sober. Wearing her battle on her sleeve, she wrote on Twitter:

A ‘recovering’ alcoholic & proud of it!In a country where people don’t even acknowledge they have a drinking problem, let alone discuss it I am grateful to stand away from the crowd that considers holding your frailties to light shameful.

When asked to comment on the Kathua and Unnao rapes at an event, the veteran actor, Amitabh Bachchan had said that it is terrible to even speak about it.“Even discussing this issue feels disgusting, don’t bring up this issue. It is terrible to even talk about it,” he said.

As the brand ambassador, Amitabh has praised the government for its efforts through the campaign Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.

Pooja Bhatt invoked his film Pink to make a point.

Go home, trolls. Come up with healthier ways to disagree and debate, and better defences for your ‘legends’.
