Recently, Aamir Khan took to Twitter to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to curb the use of single-use plastic. He wrote, “ The initiative by the Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi to curb ‘single use plastic’ is an effort all of us should strongly support. It’s up to each of us to make sure we stop using ‘single use plastic’.”
The Prime Minister thanked Aamir Khan for supporting the move. “ Thank you Aamir Khan for the valuable support to the movement to eliminate usage of single use plastic. Your encouraging words will inspire others to strengthen the movement as well”, he wrote on Twitter.
Filmmaker Karan Johar, too, extended his support. “ The initiative by our honourable Prime minister Narendra Modi to eliminate the usage of “single use plastic “is formidable and as citizens of not just our incredible nation but also of the world we have to support this extremely important cause ....our environment defines us.....”, he also tweeted.
In his Mann Ki Baat address on Sunday, the Prime Minister has called for a movement against single-use plastic from October 2, that also marks the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He also asked municipalities, NGOs and corporates to come up with ways for safe disposal of accumulated plastic waste before Diwali.
