A few days after a photo of internet sensation Ranu Mondal wearing a layer of foundation significantly lighter than her skintone went viral, a make-up artist has claimed that the pictures have been photoshopped. The artist, who goes by the Instagram handle @sandhyasmakeover, posted the original image saying that it had been “edited to an extent” by social media users.

The artist also posted a behind-the-scenes video documenting Mondal’s make-over at the studio.

The photo spawned several insensitive memes as it made its way around the internet. In her post, the make-up artist appealed to those trolling Ranu Mondal to be more sensitive and urged everyone not to take what they see on the internet at face value. “As you can see, this is the difference between the work that we have done and the 'fake' picture that has been edited to an extent. All the jokes and trolls are fine and they make us laugh too but to hurt someone sentiments, that's not a very good thing to do. We truly hope that you all will understand the truth and realise the difference between the fake one and the one that is genuine. That's all we ask for,” she wrote.

Ranu Mondal became an internet sensation overnight when a video of her singing Lata Mangeshkar’s evergreen hit ‘Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai’ went viral. Thereafter, she appeared on the reality show Superstar Singer, where Bollywood singer and composer Himesh Reshammiya spotted her and offered her a song from his upcoming fiilm Happy Hardy And Heer.
