Director Karan Johar has given Arjun Reddy remake Kabir Singh an enthusiastic thumbs up. He took to Instagram to share praise for the film saying that it is about “manic, relentless and reckless love and the experience of viewing the film is exactly the same!” He added, “It’s relentless in its narrative leaves you reckless in emotion and you find yourself Manicly rooting for Kabir’s unabashed love for Preeti! This modern Ode to Devdas leaves you spellbound!”
Karan was also effusive in his compliments for the film’s leads. “He lives and breathes the character with insanity and abandon! It almost seems like he has pulled every bit of himself to portray the part! Brilliant!!!!” he wrote of Shahid Kapoor’s performance. He called Kiara Advani, who plays Shahid’s love interest, “the sunshine and smile of the film,” and said that “her vulnerability and silences win your heart and soul!” KJo also tipped his hat to Kabir Singh director Sandeep Vanga, calling him a “master storyteller” who “breaks all cinematic grammar to tell this tale of paagal, passionate love.”
Other Bollywood celebs including Neha Dhupia, filmmakers Nikkhil Advani and Milaap Zaveri and Jaaved Jaaffrey also chimed in with their kudos.
Vijay Deverakonda, the star of Arjun Reddy on which Kabir Singh is based, praised director Sandeep Vanga. “His ability, vision and passion for storytelling is greater than any box office success he can see,” he tweeted.
Of course, Shahid’s wife Mira Kapoor also shared her excitement for the film’s release on Instagram. “So proud of you baby. It’s your time to shine,” she wrote in a note to Shahid.
