Ayushmann Khurrana and Tahira Kashyap are definitely one of Bollywood’s most-adored couples. However, the two have had their share of ups and downs. Recently in an interview, Tahira opened up about getting through the rough patches in their marriage. She said that after the release and success of Vicky Donor, she struggled due to the disconnect between her and Ayushmann as the latter would often spend a lot of time away for work.

“I had a problem with him kissing on screen. I felt like a big, huge fat whale sitting at home. When you are pregnant your hormones also go up and down. Here this boy is looking at his youngest youth best and he is romancing women and what is this onscreen kiss! We both were very young. He didn’t have the time and patience to take me along and I didn’t have the patience to understand. There was this disconnect that we were not there for each other to take each other along in that journey.”

“Somewhere he knew that she doesn’t mean to be mad. I also knew he wasn’t cheating. I had to evolve as a person to understand what art is.”

Tahira Kashyap was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 and has, ever since, been extremely open about her journey. On World Cancer Day, she even shared a new picture of herself proudly celebrating her surgery scar and rocking the post-chemotherapy look. In the interview, Tahira also spoke about how the cancer journey has been an important part of her and Ayushmann’s life.

Today is my day! Wish you all a happy #worldcancerday and hope each one of us celebrates this day in an embracing way. That we remove any stigma or taboo associated with it. That we spread awareness about it and that we have self love no matter what. I truly embrace all my scars as they are my badges of honour. There is nothing known as perfect. Happiness lies in truly accepting yourself. This was a tough one for me. But this picture was my decision as I want to celebrate not the disease but the spirit with which I endured. To quote my mentor, Diasaku Ikeda, “Leading an undefeated life is eternal victory. Not being defeated, never giving up, is actually a greater victory than winning, not being defeated means having the courage to rise to the challenge. However many times we’re knocked down, the important thing is we keep getting up and taking one step-even a half step- forward” #worldcancerday #breastcancerawareness #breastcancerwarrior #turningkarmaintomission #boddhisatva Thanks @atulkasbekar for this one❤️

“I had given up many times but he did not. He didn’t use to give up but he also didn’t make up... We both have really evolved as artists, as companions and we have seen a journey including cancer being a part of it. Where we are right now, it is at its strongest best.”

As someone venturing into filmmaking, Tahira also opened up about her Bollywood-related fears and anxieties. Initially, she felt like she didn’t want to embarrass Ayushmann by making a mediocre film. “I didn’t even tell him for the longest time that I wanted to be a director,” she said.

However, now she is fearlessly pursuing her dreams. Her directorial debut, which is currently in the works, will be produced by Tanuj Garg and Atul Kasbekar. It will be a Mumbai slice-of-life films revolving around the lives of 5 girls.
