All four accused in the rape and murder of a 25-year-old veterinarian were shot dead in an encounter by the Cyberabad police in the wee hours of Friday, 6 December at Chatanpally in Mahabubnagar district. According to the police, the accused were killed in an exchange of fire which also saw two policemen sustain injuries.
Ever since the sensational news broke, social media has been abuzz with reactions. While some are questioning the encounter, others are hailing the Telangana police.
Several celebs, including Rishi Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi and several South stars like Nagarjuna Akkineni, Jr NTR, Hansika Motwani, among others, reacted to the news of the encounter.
“Bravo Telangana Police. My congratulations!” said Rishi Kapoor, while Nagarjuna wrote, “Justice has been served”.
Vivek said that the encounter “sends a strong message to monsters who hide behind the system”.
The encounter took place around 6:30 am on Friday, when the accused were taken to the site of the offence for reconstruction of the crime scene as a part of the investigation, a senior police official told PTI.
“They (accused) snatched weapons from police and fired on police and tried to escape... police fired in retaliation in which the four accused died,” a senior police official said.
A veterinary doctor was gang-raped and killed on the outskirts of Shadnagar in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district on 27 November. Her charred body was discovered on 28 November.
Hyderabad police had arrested the four suspects - Mohammad Ali alias Mohammad Arif, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen Kumar and Chintakunta Chenna Keshavulu - in connection with the case.
