A case has been registered against Nawazuddin Siddiqui's brother Ayazuddin Siddiqui at Budhana Police station in Muzaffarnagar on 10 June by the Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV) for “hurting religious sentiments”.

Hariram Yadav Deputy Superintendent of Police in Muzaffarnagar confirmed to The Hindu that the FIR was filed by an HYV activist Bharat Thakur, under 153A of the IPC (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth).

The HYV convenor has accused Ayazuddin Siddiqui of posting an objectionable picture of Lord Shiva and demanded that police arrest him.

“Frankly, it looks like Ayazuddin had no intention of hurting anyone. He has not written anything offensive. All he did was to write something rejecting the offensive picture and post which was shared on the social networking website...He wrote something to the effect that condemned the offensive post but while writing it he also copy pasted the offensive picture which is the reason behind the HYV’s anger and complaint. It was after the HYV’s complaint that police registered an FIR against him under section 153A.”

Ayazuddin Siddiqui has also denied the charges in his statement to ANI.

“A man posted a derogatory picture of Lord Shiva. I confronted him about it and wrote you shouldn’t share posts that can hurt anyone’s religious sentiments. Instead, a case was filed against me. Charges should be investigated.”

“The police should send a signal to people like Ayazuddin that it is not easy to offend Hindus and it will fetch a deserving punishment of one dares to go down that road. That is why we have filed a case against him. If the culprit is not arrested soon then we will launch a protest campaign in Budhana.”
