The two-day Deepika and Ranveer wedding at Lake Como in Italy was a fiercely private affair... or a really exclusive hipster music festival. Either way, guests had to wear special wristbands, photography was strictly forbidden, security boats patrolled the periphery of the venue and rental companies were given strict instructions not to lease boats to anyone to keep away prying paps.
Like mohalle wale aunties, we all kept a hawk’s eye on the proceedings in the hopes for a glimpse of their big day. Starved of photographs, we pleaded to be put out of our misery. Did Ranveer upstage his bride and show up in a lehenga? How long did we have to wait before we could dissect what Deepika’s mehendi motifs stood for? The nation. wanted. to. know.
Well, the joke’s on us because ever since the couple returned to India, their lives have been one big party - and thanks to social media, we were all invited. They took the phrase, “Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost” to a whole new level.
Just to recap, since 16 November, there has been: DeepVeer lands in Bengaluru, DeepVeer play at being royalty at their Bengaluru reception, DeepVeer twin at Mumbai airport, DeepVeer channel Frida Kahlo (and whatever Ranveer was going for) at their private party, DeepVeer get their Bajirao-Mastani on at a reception in Mumbai, and DeepVeer get down with Bollywood.
We asked and we received. And now we’re asking: Will it ever end?
