Deepika Padukone share a selfie on social media showing off her inked finger after voting for the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections and in a note addressed rumours that she doesn’t hold an Indian nationality.
Deepika took to Instagram to post her ‘inkfie’ on Monday 29 April when Phase 4 of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections started in Mumbai. In the caption for the picture, she wrote, “Never has there been any doubt in my mind about who I am or where I’m from.So for those of you confused on my behalf...please don’t be!Jai Hind!🙏🏽 #proudtobeanindian #govote”
Take a look.
Deepika’s note appears to be a sly rebuttal of an ongoing rumour that the Padmaavat star held a Danish passport and would not be able to vote in Indian elections. These claims about Deepika’s nationality have been disproven by The Quint.
Turns out Deepika has herself responded to the claim in the past.
At a press briefing ahead of the IIFA awards in 2014, she clarified rumours about her passport, affirming that she did, in fact, hold an Indian passport.
“You’re wrong, I hold an Indian passport. Where do you all get this from anyway?” she was seen asking the journalist who questioned her about her passport. She then called herself a “proud Indian citizen”, who very much owns an Indian passport.
She also stated that she would be voting in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, before she left for the IIFA award ceremony. “I will vote in the elections, and then leave for the IIFA ceremony,” she said. Deepika was also previously photographed voting in the 2014 Maharashtra state assembly elections.
So there you go, Deepika has once again put the rumours to rest. She’s a 100% Indian and she’s got the ink to prove it.
