This one’s a shocker. Three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis has reportedly quit acting. His last film would be an untitled drama set to release this December. Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who directed Lewis in the Oscar-winning There Will Be Blood, the film is said to be set in the world of high fashion.

According to Variety, Day-Lewis’ retirement plan was announced through a statement by his spokesperson and no reasons were proffered.

Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.

It would no doubt be a massive loss to Hollywood. Day-Lewis is one of those rare actors who goes to great lengths to get into the skin of a character and is wildly versatile to boot. The only performer to have won three best actor Oscars, Lewis took home the trophies for the title role in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, There Will Be Blood, and My Left Foot. He also earned two Academy Award nominations for Gangs of New York and In the Name of the Father.
