Taking a leap from the art of cooking to the art of directing, Michelin Star chef Vikas Khanna has made his directorial debut with The Last Color, starring Neena Gupta. The film is based on a book written by the celebrity chef himself.
Guess what? The film is not about food! The plot of the movie revolves around the Supreme Court order against an age-old tradition of not allowing widows in Vrindavan to play Holi.
In conversation with Stutee Ghosh at the Jio MAMI 20th Mumbai International Film Festival, Vikas Khanna spoke about what triggered him to make this movie.
“It pained me a lot when I was in Varanasi at the time of Holi. It became so overwhelming and magnified that everything on the roads, the walls, the people, everything was coloured except for those women standing in the bylanes. That pinched me, and that is what manifested this entire inception.”Vikas Khanna, Celebrity chef
Khanna also recalled how he used to bake apple pies for the two kids in the movie to hold their attention and make them learn the dialogues. He added:
“It’s amazing that within a lifetime, you could win a Michelin Star and you’re also making movies that impact the social relevance of the culture.”Vikas Khanna, Celebrity chef
