Bollywood celebrities joined the country in remembering the martyrs of the 1999 Kargil War on the 20th anniversary of the conflict. Akshay Kumar, Vicky Kaushal, Amitabh Bachchan and Anushka Sharma took to social media to share messages on Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Akshay shared a clip of jawans singing ‘Teri Mitti’, a song from Kesari. “Came across this heart-warming video which made my day. When your small tribute reaches the people it’s meant for... what more can you ask for? A million salutes to our #BharatKeVeer” he wrote.
He also recommended a book about the martyrs of the Kargil War.
Vicky Kaushal shared that he was honoured his film Uri is being re-released and will be screened for free across 500 theatres across Maharashtra on 26 July in honour of Kargil Vijay Diwas. The film is based on the retaliatory surgical strikes carried out by the Indian army in POK in 2016.
Amitabh Bachchan responded to a fan who posted a video that he had voiced for the 20th anniversary of the conflict with a message for the soldiers of the war. “We salute you for your sacrifice,” he wrote.
Ajay Devgn and Ayushmann Khurrana too shared messages honouring the bravery of those who fought in the Kargil War.
