After their controversial appearance on Bigg Boss 12 last year, contestants Anup Jalota and Jasleen Matharu will reunite on the big screen in Vo Meri Student Hai and play the roles of a teacher and student, respectively. The film has been written and directed by Jasleen’s father, Kesar Matharu, and is set to release on Diwali.

The nature of Anup and Jasleen’s relationship was the subject of much debate during their time in the Bigg Boss house. In an interview with Times of India, the ghazal singer said that the film would “clear a lot of misconceptions” about their equation. He added, “In the film, she comes to learn music from me and I will be seen asking her to dress up more appropriately, as I am from a traditional music background.” Anup will also be seen rapping in a dream sequence for the film.

He explained, “I have no issues with anyone wearing clothes of their choice, but certain situations demand a certain kind of dressing. I, too, wear shorts in real life, but I don’t wear them to my class when I am teaching students. We have to respect the platform.”

28-year-old Jasleen Matharu and 65-year-old Anup Jalota entered the Bigg Boss house in season 12 as a ‘guru-shishya’ (teacher-student) pair. They made headlines as their alleged romance was hinted at over the course of the show - a candlelight dinner was also arranged exclusively for them inside the house. Jasleen initially claimed that they had been in a three-year-long relationship but after she was evicted in week 12, she clarified to FirstPost that it was a “prank gone horribly wrong”. “Anupji played along, but when he realised things were going too far, he started clarifying,” she said. According to Jasleen, the film is their attempt to “clear the air”.
