Bollywood has reacted strongly to the murder of two-and-a-half-year-old girl, who was found in a garbage dump in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh on Sunday, 2 June. Initial reports have suggested the crime was committed as revenge in a dispute over money.
Celebs such as Akshay Kumar, Ayushmann Khurrana, Anupam Kher and Sonam Kapoor took to Twitter to express their rage at the heinous crime, calling for swift action against the perpetrators. Here’s what they have to say:
Twinkle Khanna appealed to Union Cabinet Minister for Women & Child Development Smriti Irani to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
Sonam Kapoor deemed the incident “heartbreaking and horrific”. “I also urge people to not make this into a selfish agenda. This is a little girl’s death, not a reason to spread your hate,” she cautioned.
The Aligarh Police has told The Quint that they will probe the murder of the toddler under the National Security Act (NSA), after which the case will be transferred to a fast track court. The girl had been missing since 31 May, they said.
While initial reports hinted at sexual assault, but the police have denied it after the post-mortem report. "We are proceeding with it as an NSA case and will try to get it to a fast track court. There is no mention of rape in post-mortem report. Two accused have been arrested and five officials have been suspended,” Aligarh SSP Akash Kulhary said.
