Abish Mathew, who runs a successful talk show Son of Abish, recently spoke to The Quint about his new audio show on Audible Suno, called The UnExperts. Some time back, his show ran into controversy when guest Swara Bhasker was called out for apparently “abusing” a child. He did address the controversy and this is what he had to say:

Let’s talk about maybe Swara. Did you ever think it would blow up into something like that at all?

I‘m not shocked anymore with anything. Life is about preparing for consequences of things you do not prepare for. But the good thing I got out of that is Swara and I are great friends now.

Do you think there are some topics that people should just not joke about?

Yes, people should talk about everything and one way of talking is through humour. I think if you don’t talk about something then you’re being ignorant about so many things that exist. The only difference between a comedian and a person who does not like comedy in general and people who hate laughing is that heartbeat. For people who don’t like comedy, they’re dead and six feet under.

Probably burnt into ashes at this point of time. Everyone likes to laugh. Everyone likes comedy is what I am trying to say. And comedy is just a conversation. I think everyone should have a conversation.

Are you slightly nervous? With video you have more of an audience to reach out to.

I am not nervous at all because number one, it is free download. The reason Indians fought for freedom is because it had the word ‘free’ in it.

But what are the types of topics we are looking at? Do you think you’ll touch things like politics maybe?

Oh, no. Not at all. We might talk about politics on Mars once Mars becomes colonised by human beings. We also speak about parents and there is a part where we talk about, if we have prepared ourselves for our parent’s death.
