Before the Filmfare Awards, Here’s the Bakwas of Bollywood 2018

Let’s slip into the awards season by listing out the best of the worst from Bollywood 2018.

As usual, the Filmfare Awards are going to honour the best of Bollywood’s 2018 films on 23 March. But here’s a list of films that need to be awarded as the best of the bakwas that Bollywood had to offer from last year. Trashy, painful and totally unbearable, here’s our list of 5 crappy films that need to be added to Bollywood’s Hall of Shame.

1. Welcome to New York

‘India’s first comedy in 3 D’ declared the publicity around Welcome to New York. There needs to be a legit CBI inquiry into why this abominable film was made and that too in 3D! Who exactly though this was a good idea and that people would actually pay to see this trash? Karan Johar in a double role with in jokes about his own films and Diljit Dosanjh with Sonakshi Sinha trying to look interested in the going ons - this film did not have a single redeeming feature.

2. Satyamev Jayate

We assumed we had left behind vigilante potboilers in the 80s but we were wrong. Satyamev Jayate felt like a blast from the forgettable past. John Abraham plays Veer who goes around killing corrupt cops in the most gruesome manner while Manoj Bajpayee is hot on his heels. Incidentally, John and Manoj play brothers in this film. Yeah, we’ll leave it there.

3. Namaste England

An unworthy follow up to the hit Namaste London, this Arjun Kapoor - Parineeti Chopra romantic drama is the most dully told convoluted story ever. Parineeti as an ambitious Jasmeet wants to live an independent life that’s only possible in England, Arjun Kapoor as Param follows her takes on a journey to reach her. The audience wished the makers of this film took a one way ticket to London and never returned to make this film.

4. Race 3

The audience that suffered through Race 3, wished they had taken Daisy Shah’s meme-worthy dialogue ‘Our business is our business, none of your business’ seriously and stayed away from the film. Conniving business families, rivalry, betrayal, lots of action and explosion - Race 3 featuring Salman Khan went off track with its absurd storyline, insipid performances and unimaginative direction. Pity, it’s a good franchise that’s been laid to rest.

5. Thugs of Hindostan

Who would’ve thought that Bollywood’s most expensive film that would finally bring Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan together on the big screen would end up being such a disaster. At 2 hours 45 minutes, this pre-independence drama becomes a task to sit through as the actors go through their lines conjuring up cliché after cliché. Thugs of Hindostan tops our list of bakwas from Bollywood for the sheer amount of money, time and resource that has been wasted on an eminently forgettable project.
