The latest cast member to join Ranveer Singh starrer 83 is Mali Marshall, who will essay the role of his father, the late West Indies bowler Malcolm Marshall. The sports drama is based on India’s historic win at the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
Director Kabir Khan confirmed the news to Mumbai Mirror saying,
“Yes, we are thrilled to have Mali Marshall, son of the legend Malcolm Marshall play the role of his father. Not only does he look like his father but his bowling action is also exactly like him. As we all know, Malcolm Marshall was part of the fearsome West Indies quartet of pace bowlers - Marshall, Michael Holding, Joel Garner and Andy Roberts.”Kabir Khan, Director
According to the publication, Khan is also in talks with the sons of other West Indian bowlers, including Gordon Greenidge’s son Carl.
While Ranveer Singh plays former Indian skipper Kapil Dev, the film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Chirag Patil (son of cricketer Sandip Patil), Ammy Virk, Saqib Saleem, Sahil Khatter and Tahir Bhasin.
The actors recently kicked off a 10-day training session in Dharamshala and are being coached by former Indian cricketers like Kapil Dev, Balwinder Sandhu and Mohinder Amarnath.
83 hits theatres on 10 April 2020.
