Yash Raj Films’ War, starring the action duo Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, hit the big screen across India on 2 October. In the first five days of its release, War has crossed a number of benchmarks already. It has crossed the opening weekend business of recent 2019 blockbusters like Bharat and Mission Mangal.
However, that’s not all. War has also crossed the lifetime business of films like Kesari, Total Dhamaal and Saaho. It now stands a s the fifth highest grossing film of 2019. “Should surpass *lifetime biz* of #Bharat and #MissionMangal soon,” wrote trade analyst Taran Adarsh on Twitter.
The film broke box office records by crossing Rs 100 crore in three days. It’s the fifth Yash Raj Films to cross this figure after Dhoom 3, Sultan, Tiger Zinda Hai and Thugs of Hindostan.
The film had earned Rs 74.70 crore in the first two days. The Tamil and Telugu versions take the total earnings of War so far up to Rs 77.70 crore.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, War is expected to pick up over the weekend.
Adarsh noted that War surpassed the opening day collection of both Salman Khan’s Bharat as well as Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal by raking in Rs 53.35 crore. So far, War is Bollywood’s biggest opener ever. It released on 4,000 screens across India in three languages - Hindi, Tamil, Telugu.
One of the most anticipated action-thrillers of 2019, War is the story of an Indian soldier, Khalid (Tiger), who is assigned to eliminate a senior agent and his mentor Kabir (Hrithik) as he has gone rogue. It is directed by Siddharth Anand and also stars Vaani Kapoor.
Even before the release of the film, trade analysts expected it to do well on the first day. Film trade analyst Atul Mohan had put the day one figure at around Rs 40 crore. Clearly, War has surpassed that expectation by a huge margin.
