Uri: The Surgical Strike is on its way to cross the Rs 150 crore mark and continues its glorious run at the box office as the first massive hit of 2019. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, it has earned Rs 157.38 crore since its premiere on 11 January.

The Vicky Kaushal-starrer will become the highest grossing mid-range film beating Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Adarsh noted. It has collected Rs 50 crore in Mumbai alone. Uri has a good chance of cross Rs 200 crore, Taran added.

The film opened to mostly positive reviews on 11 January and, according to Adarsh, got a “flying start” at the box office. The military drama earned Rs 70.94 crore in a week.

What’s more, Uri collected more than 2018’s biggest hits - Raazi, Stree, Badhaai Ho, and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety - in the first week.

Vicky Kaushal’s performance in the film in particular has been praised. According to The Quint’s Stutee Ghosh Kaushal, in his “all guns blazing avatar, plays his role with exactly the right amount of vigour and vulnerability”.

The film is based on the retaliatory surgical strikes carried out by the Indian army in POK in 2016. It has been directed by Aditya Dhar and stars Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal and Mohit Raina.
