Debutant director Rahi Anil Barve’s Tumbbad, starring Sohum Shah, has opened to rave reviews all over. Touted as that rare perfect Indian horror film, it ticks all the boxes and goes a step further by never letting its grip on the genre slip. Tumbbad was the first Indian film to open the Venice International Film Critic's Week.
But it hasn’t managed to win over the box office. Tumbbad had a dull first weekend despite a positive vibe, and earned Rs 3.25 crore. Collecting 5.58 crores in week 1, Tumbbad has maintained its run at the box office collecting 0.46 crores, 0.70 crores and 0.74 crores on the next three days respectively.
As trade analyst Taran Adarsh predicted, the film needed to register a steady upward trend for a satisfactory total earning.
