Despite the controversy surrounding it and competition from Uri: The Surgical Strike, Anupam Kher’s The Accidental Minister made a “decent” collection at the box office on day 1 according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The film “picked up from evening shows onwards”, he observed.
The Accidental Prime Minister has been poorly received by critics who have called it out for appearing like a shoddy propaganda film.
The film is based on the book of the same name by Sanjaya Baru. It offers a behind-the-scenes look at the UPA administration and delves into the relationship between Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh. It has been directed by Vijay Gutte and stars Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles.
