Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh, who made his Bollywood debut with Udtaa Punjab, will be seen in a sports film based on hockey legend Sandeep Singh, who made headlines with his comeback after an accident. The trailer of the Shaad Ali directorial just dropped and it has all the vibes a ‘triumph of the human spirit’ tale.
The former captain of the Indian national hockey team was paralysed and wheelchair bound for 2 years after an accidental gunshot injured him in 2006. Soorma revolves around Singh’s comeback into the game despite his debilitating injury. The film’s tagline is “The Greatest Comeback Story of the Hockey Legend Sandeep Singh”.
India won the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and also qualified for the 2012 Olympics in London under his captaincy.
The makers had earlier released a creative with the photographs of Diljit and Sandeep with the message #DontLetThisStoryPass. The trailer also features Tapsee Pannu who plays a pivotal role in the film.
“Normally, sportspersons have a very aggressive and go-getter kind of personality but my character despite being a hockey player is coy and soft-spoken off the field. I don’t relate with that trait at all so that was a bit challenging for me but being Punjabi really helped for this film to play the character other than that learning hockey and getting to relate to character’s personality trait was bit difficult.”Tapsee Pannu
Produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions, Chitrangda Singh and Deepak Singh, the film is set to hit theatres on 13 July.
