Sonam K Ahuja and Dulquer Salmaan came together at a multiplex in Mumbai on Thursday afternoon to release the trailer of their upcoming romantic comedy The Zoya Factor. What we see in the trailer is that Sonam, who plays Zoya in the film, is born the day that Kapil Dev and his team win the cricket World Cup in June 1983 and she’s considered a lucky charm for the present Indian cricket team. Though Zoya hates cricket, things get complicated when she falls for the captain of the Indian team, Nikhil, played by Dulquer.

Sonam revealed that her dad, Anil Kapoor, had flown to Manchester to watch the semi-final match between India and New Zealand and he asked Sonam also to join him to watch the match.

Speaking at the trailer launch, Sonam gave us an interesting anecdote regarding this year’s ICC World Cup. Sonam revealed that her dad, Anil Kapoor, had flown to Manchester to watch the semi-final match between India and New Zealand and he asked Sonam also to join him to watch the match. However, Sonam declined the invitation because she had an important appointment with a doctor on the same day as the match. But Anil Kapoor insisted that Sonam join him for the match as she would be lucky for the Indian team. But since her doctor’s appointment was crucial, Sonam did not go to Manchester for the match and the Indian team ended up losing the semi-final to New Zealand. So, now we know that Sonam is the reason why India lost out on the World Cup this year.

Speaking about superstition and her faith in God, Sonam added that she believed in luck and destiny but she also knew that nothing could be achieved without putting in hard work. The actor also said that her name Sonam meant “lucky”.

“The meaning of my name Sonam is ‘lucky’ and when I was conceived my father’s life actually changed. During that period, his films like ‘Ram Lakhan’ and ‘Tezaab’ did really well, so my parents think that I am very lucky for them. A couple of astrologers has read my janam patri (birth chart) and they said that I am lucky for the man in my life so, I don’t know. I believe a bit in luck but I believe a lot in destiny and everyone has to work hard. So, I feel it is the combination of these three things. I feel eventually whatever happens, happens because it is meant to happen because of your karma and which can be hard work so, God only knows what is right and what is wrong. I think we Indian inherently believe in combination of these aspects.”
