Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - who arrived in Mumbai late on Wednesday - has a date with some of the biggest stars and film personalities at an exclusive ‘Shalom Bollywood’ evening on Thursday.

The much-anticipated event was attended by Amitabh Bachchan, Karan Johar, Imitiaz Ali, Aishwarya Rai, Sara Ali Khan and other stars at a south Mumbai five-star hotel.

“I am so passionate about this relationship and I want every Indian and every Israelian to know about the phenomenal friendship between the two countries. So I have an idea, one of the most viral pictures of all time took place at the Oscars, and several celebrities including Brad Pitt took a selfie. So I want all the Bollywood celebrities, producers and stars to join together for a selfie. Let a few hundred million people see the friendship,” said Netanyahu and took a selfie with “Bollywood”.

“I learnt that Amitabh Bachchan has a larger fan following than me on social media. You guys are a big deal. The world loves Bollywood. We love Bollywood. We want Bollywood in Israel,” said PM Netanyahu.

“Before Narendra Modi's historic visit to Israel, we passed several resolutions about cementing ties and one of them is about films. We put a modest sum of 4 million shekel for starting out. You guys have used it all, not all of it, there are some left. I want to make a pledge tonight, if you guys come and you guys need more, we will put in more. We want Bollywood in Israel," he added.

Amitabh Bachchan welcomes Israeli Prime Minsiter, Benjamin Netanyahu in Mumbai and addresses the audience.

“India produces more than a 1500 films every year, which is four times what Hollywood produces and twice as much as comes out of China,” said Amitabh at the event.

“Indian cinema has gone truly global, it is liked in every part of the world,” says Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis at the event.
