Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor have began shooting for their upcoming horror comedy RoohiAfza, which also stars Fukrey actor Varun Sharma. The film is Rajkummar’s third collaboration with producer Dinesh Vijan after 2018’s Stree. Both the actors are currently in Manali, filming for the horror comedy.

The film is expected to release in March 2020.

Earlier, Taran Adarsh had annunced the shooting of the film. On 14 June, here’s what he wrote on Twitter, “Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma... #RoohiAfza filming begins today... Directed by Hardik Mehta... Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba”

Set in Uttar Pradesh, RoohiAfza is reportedly based on a folktale according to which every time a wedding takes place, the women of the town come together to prevent the groom from falling asleep all night. They believe that if they don’t, a ghost will put him to sleep with a lullaby and the newly married couple will be haunted by it all their lives.

Janhvi Kapoor is likely to play a double role in the film. Speaking about casting her, co-producer Mrighdeep Singh Lamba said, “We took some time to finalise the female lead. Besides being pretty, she needed to oscillate between two characters which are poles apart. You will fall in love with her in one scene and won’t believe she is the same girl in the next one. It’s not an easy switch for an actor. It’s the perfect casting.”

Speaking to IANS, Rajkummar Rao said he is looking forward to sharing screen space with Janhvi. "I am also very excited to work with her. I think Janhvi is a great girl, a wonderful actress and a good friend. So, I think we will have a lot fun while shooting for the film. It is a very quirky script and I am looking forward to be with her,” he said.

RoohiAfza will be directed by Hardik Mehta and is expected to release on 20 March 2020.
