Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar and Zaira Wasim-starrer The Sky Is Pink opened to low numbers despite glowing reviews. According to Koimoi, the film has made around Rs 11 crores on its first weekend, having collected Rs 4.50 crores at the box office on day three.
The Shonali Bose directorial earned around Rs 2.50 crore (as per early estimates) on the opening day. The day one collections of The Sky Is Pink are much lower than Priyanka’s last Hindi release, 2016’s Jai Gangaajal, which had made Rs 4.48 crore on the first day.
Director Shonali Bose’s family drama had a limited release in theatres. Positive word of mouth could help the film increase its collections on Saturday and Sunday. But with Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff-starrer War going strong at the box office, it could be an uphill task. The film has been made at a budget of around Rs 24 crore.
The film had premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it got a 10-minute standing ovation. The film marks the return of Priyanka to Bollywood after a gap of three years.
The Sky is Pink is a love story based on the real life couple of Aditi and Niren Chaudhary, told through the lens of their teenage daughter, who passed away at the age of 18, due to side effects from the treatment went through for a genetic condition called pulmonary fibrosis when she was a baby. While Zaira plays the role of the teenager, Aisha Chaudhary, Priyanka and Farhan play her parents.
