At the stroke of midnight on Wednesday, 15 August, Vishal Bhardwaj dropped the trailed for his next entertainer- Pataakha, which promises to be quite a dhamaka for its audience!

Starring Dangal’s Sanya Malhotra and television actress Radhika Madan, two sisters who can’t stand the sight of one another, Bhardwaj seems to use their relationship as a metaphor for India and Pakistan’s relationship.

In a statement reported by the media, Bhardwaj explains this as his reason for releasing the trailer at midnight on 15 August, because according to him, this was when India and Pakistan were born as two separate nations.

Siblings fight like crazy for the most superficial reasons. India and Pakistan were born from the same subcontinent and have been fighting continuously for more than 70 years. Kuch hi saalon mein 100 saal ho jayenge iss ladayi ko. (It will soon be a 100 years that the two nations have been fighting). Just like Badki and Chhutki in the film, we are so used to fighting since birth, we don’t know any other way to be.
Vishal Bhardwaj, as reported by The Times of India

As can be seen in the trailer, both ‘Badki’ and ‘Chutki’- Madan and Malhotra- have definitely kept this sentiment in mind, with the history of their rivalry being known to the entire neighbourhood.

Verbal abuses are hurled, blows are exchanged, and the desire to be as detached from one another, are portrayed perfectly by the two actors.

However, the two sisters find their fates inextricably linked, when they both elope to run away from an ill-fated marriage with a Mr Patel, only to find that they have eloped with two brothers, thereby sealing their joint fates forever- a message that Bhardwaj possibly wishes to reiterate towards India and Pakistan as well.

This Vishal Bhardwaj entertainer is set to release on 28 September.
