The trailer for Ashutosh Gowariker’s upcoming period drama Panipat just dropped and the magnum opus depicts the war between Sadashiv Rao (Arjun Kapoor) and Ahmad Shah Abdali (Sanjay Dutt). Kriti Sanon as Parvati Bai is also seen wielding a sword.

Along with Arjun, Kriti and Sanjay, the film stars Mohnish Bahl and Padmini Kolhapure in pivotal roles with Zeenat Aman in a guest appearance. The trailer does remind us of some moments from Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat.

The film is based on the Third Battle of Panipat, which is one of the most epic battles in the history of India that took place on 14 January 1761 at Panipat. The battle was fought between the force of the Maratha Empire and invading forces of the King of Afghanistan, Ahmad Shah Abdali, supported by two Indian allies – the Rohilla Afghans of the Doab, and Shuja-ud-Daula, the Nawab of Awadh.

On 4 November, the makers released several posters introducing different characters from the film.

The first poster revealed Sanjay Dutt’s character Ahmad Shah Abdali, who can be seen dressed in chainmail, has also been released. Abdali, then King of Afghanistan, fought the Marathas in the Third Battle of Panipat in 1761.

Another poster shows Kriti Sanon as Parvati Bai, who fought alongside her husband Sadashivrao in the battle.

Another poster revealed Arjun Kapoor’s look as Sadashivrao Bhau, the nephew of Peshwa Bajirao I who served as the Sardar Senapati (commander) of the Maratha army in the Third Battle of Panipat.

In November 2018, Arjun had shared the news of commencement of principal photography of the film, and wrote, “Embarking on a journey like never before... with Ashu sir & our entire team.#Panipat#PanipatShootBeginsToday.”
