Even as Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh remain steadfast in their decisions of not lifting the ban on the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, mired in controversy - Padmaavat, reports suggest that the Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath has given it an affirmative nod.
After receiving clearance from the CBFC with a U/A certificate, the film is allegedly set to release on January 25 but there’s no official statement from the makers, yet, confirming the same.
“Now that the filmmaker has incorporated the changes suggested by the Censor Board, I see no reason why the release of the film should be stopped.”A government official to a leading national daily
Rumours were rife that the CBFC had demanded 300 cuts in the film.
“The makers have submitted the final film with agreed five modifications which have already been communicated and a U/A certificate has been given to the film. CBFC’s process is complete and any further news about cuts is absolutely untrue. Let’s refrain from utilising CBFC’s name unnecessarily.”CBFC Chief, Prasoon Joshi
Several members of the fringe group, Karni Sena continue to protest against the film. They had earlier launched violent threats against the director Bhansali and the lead actor Deepika Padukone and the film’s release was indefinitely postponed from the original release date of December 21.
