2017 truly seems to be the year of Rajkummar Rao. After winning us over with Bareilly Ki Barfi and promising an intriguing turn as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in the web series Bose Dead/ Alive, the actor seems to have spun out another spectacular performance in Amit Masurkar’s upcoming film Newton.
The film has already created ripples in the international festival circuit, and revolves around Newton (Rao), an honest officer sent to oversee elections in the Maoist terror-ridden Dandakaranya. Unbelievably, arrogantly and stubbornly honest, Newton refuses to budge from his duties in the face of cynicism, peer pressure or even bullets.

Rajkummar Rao, the reel chameleon that he is, seems to have completely internalised Newton, complete with body language and mannerisms. He is also ably supported by Sanjay Mishra Raghubir Yadav and Pankaj Tripathi. Mayank Tiwari and director Amit Masurkar’s screenplay promise some scintillating writing as well.
A film to watch out for sure, Newton releases on 22 September.
