On January 28, during an NBA basketball match between Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat in the United States of America, cheerleaders, dressed in lilac ghagras put up a Ghoomar dance performance.

Ironically when the video of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law dancing to the song in a Sangeet function in Lucknow went viral, it was met with severe backlash from fringe groups.

“It is just an answer to the anguish that we all went through including me, the actors and the technicians. All of us were not being heard even after repeatedly saying that there is nothing wrong in the film. I realised that the best way of going ahead and fighting this is to make the film that is in my mind,” 
Sanjay Leela Bhansali told PTI.
