Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh and Tara Sutaria-starrer Marjaavaan has registered a decent opening at the box-office. The film has earned Rs 7.03 crore on day one, giving Sidharth his best solo opening day figures since 2014’s Ek Villain. On day 2, the film has remained steady by collecting Rs 7.21 crores. The film saw a huge jump on Sunday, earning Rs 10.18 crore.
Now, Marjaavaan’s second week has also begun well with the film raking in Rs 4.15 crore on a weekday i.e. Monday. It’s total collection now stands at Rs 28.57 crore.
Ek Villain, which incidentally also starred Riteish and Sidharth together, had earned Rs 16.70 crore on day one. It remains the best opening day figures of Sidharth’s career. Brothers, where he starred alongside Akshay Kumar, had made Rs 15.24 crore.
But with Bala still going strong at the box office, and a mixed word of mouth, Marjaavaan has a tough road ahead.
Marjaavaan has been made at a budget of Rs 70 crore, and will have to gain momentum on the weekend to become a hit.
Sidharth has been going through a dry-spell at the box office, with his last five films failing to make a mark. Marjaavaan is expected to perform better than these films though.
Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the figures and called the film’s opening a “respectable” one.
Movie business analyst, Atul Mohan had predicted in an interview to the The Quint that the massy trailer, the music and the over the top dialogues could work in favour of the film.
“Buzz is strong in mass centres. We could be looking at around Rs 6 to 7 crore on day one,” he had predicted.
Directed by Milap Zaveri, Marajaavaan is a love story, with Riteish playing the baddie.
