We all can agree in unison that the on-screen pair that became immensely popular during the 1990s was Madhuri Dixit-Nene-Sanjay Dutt. The duo teamed up for nine films in the decade, and their chemistry was such a rage, that there were rumours of them being in a relationship. However, both actors have repeatedly denied this claim through the years.

They first shared screen space in 1988 with the film Khatron Ke Khiladi and were last seen together in 1997 in Mahanta. Whenever we talk about the duo, the first two films that come to our mind are Khalnayak and Saajan. It’s a delight for movie buffs that after 22 years, the duo have finally zeroed in on an ambitious project, Kalank. The live teaser of the film was screened on Tuesday with all the actors sharing their special moments.

Speaking about the experience of working with director Abhishek Varman and Dharma productions, Madhuri said, “I think it is wonderful being part of the journey. I am working with Karan, Dharma films, and my director Abhishek is one of the finest persons I have ever met. It’s very difficult to please him, so when you give a good shot he gives you a big smile.”

Sanjay Dutt, too, spoke about his old association with Karan Johar’s father Yash Johar. “I was very close to your (Karan) dad. It’s always been a pleasure working with Dharma. To work with Varun, Sonakshi, Alia and most of all ma’am (Madhuri ji) after so many years for Kalank has been amazing. I love you all”, he added.

Film critic Rajeev Masand shared snippets of the teaser launch, where Madhuri speaks about reuniting with Sanjay Dutt. “It’s been over 20 years since I have worked with Sanjay Dutt. I have shared screen space with Anil Kapoor after a long time. It’s always great to work with old associations,” she said.

When Varun Dhawan asked Dutt whether he addressed Madhuri as ma’am on the sets, the audience burst out laughing. As for choosing this script, he said, “The biggest reason to do this film is Abhishek. When I was an assistant director for My Name is Khan, Abhishek was my roommate. He would iron my clothes, and he has been a great friend.”

While Aditya Roy Kapur lauded Varman for having a ‘clear vision’, Alia Bhatt termed the experience as ‘surreal.’
