1. ‘Mission Mangal’ Earns Rs 29 Cr, Akshay’s Higest Opening Till Date
Mission Mangal, a film recounting India’s successful launch of the Mars Orbiter Mission, hit the theatres on 15 August. It stars Vidya Balan, Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari and Nithya Menen. The movie seems to have gone down very well with the audience, and it has earned Rs 29.16 crores on Day 1. Also, it becomes Akshay Kumar’s highest opener till date, surpassing the Day 1 collection of his last Independence Day release, Gold.

2. Saif Promises Intense Drama in Fiery ‘Laal Kaptaan’ Teaser
The teaser for filmmaker Aanand L Rai’s upcoming film Laal Kaptaan has been released to coincide with its lead actor Saif Ali Khan’s 49th birthday. The short clip gives us a glimpse of him as a Naga sadhu. He smears ash over his face and lifts his eyes to the camera as a voiceover says menacingly, “Har Ram ka apna Raavan, harRaavan ka apna Dussehra (Every Ram has a Raavan and every Raavan has his Dusshera).”

3. Varun Wishes Dad David Dhawan in ‘Coolie No. 1’ Style
After Judwaa 2, the father-son duo of David and Varun Dhawan have re-united for Coolie No.1, the shoot for which is currently underway in Bangkok. From the sets, Varun has shared a cute photograph of the two, wishing his Dad on his 64th birthday.
He took to Instagram to share a picture and captioned it saying, "Happy birthday papa. Mere no 1 director. Kaam chalu hai bhai log. Coolie number 1." In the picture, Varun can be seen dressed in the coolie attire, with David wearing his cap.

4. National Award Win for ‘Badhaai Ho’ is Gratifying: Sanya Malhotra
Whether it is her Bollywood debut, the Aamir Khan-starrer Dangal, or last year’s hit Badhaai Ho, Sanya Malhotra's choice of films reflects her attraction to good scripts. While Dangal went on to become Bollywood's biggest blockbuster ever, Badhaai Ho has recently won the National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Speaking to IANS, Sanya says such appreciation for films with good stories is truly gratifying.
“When I heard the story of Badhai Ho, I knew it would be a very special film because the subject was different. This was one of those films where I took no time to say ‘yes’. The amount of appreciation we have got from the audience and critics is unimaginable. That is why the National Award win is gratifying,” she said.

5. Madhavan Shuts Down Troll Objecting to Cross in His Family Photo
On Friday, 16 August, R Madhavan shared a long note responding to a troll on Twitter, who had objected to a cross in the background of a picture of the actor and his family. he wrote, “I really don’t care about respect from the likes of you. I hope you get well soon. Surprised that in your sickness you did not see the Golden Temple pic there too and asked if I converted to Sikhism.” “I have blessing from the dargas there too and blessing from all religious places around the world. Some gifted and some bought. My home is home to staff of all faiths and we pray at a common alter. Like any defence personal will tell you, happens in every unit,” he continued.
