Veteran Bengali Actor Swarup Dutta Passes Away at 78

Yesteryears actor Swarup Dutta, known for his performances in Bengali films such as Pita Putra and Harmonium, passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday at the age of 78.

The septuagenarian was admitted at a city hospital on Saturday and he breathed his last at 6:10 am on Wednesday. The actor who had been suffering from age-related ailments is survived by his wife and a son.

Dutta's debut film was Tapan Sinha's Apanjan (1968), and he made a mark in the Bengali film and theatre industries owing to his versatile acting skills in numerous films of the seventies.

"His acting in Tapan Sinha's 1968 film Apanjan has left a remarkable impression in the minds of the viewers. His demise created an irreplaceable void in the world of acting," West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in a statement.

Kalki Announces her upcoming web series 'Bhram'

National award-winning actress Kalki Koechlin started shooting for the upcoming web series, Bhram" on Wednesday in Shimla. She essays a romantic novelist on the show.

"My character Alisha is a popular romance writer. She has memory loss and hallucinations after an accident, and is convinced her mental state is a way to find out the missing piece of puzzle (related to the incident). She continues to believe her story even though everyone else has stopped believing her," Kalki said.

Bhram is an eight-episode web series which will stream on ZEE5, tentatively in September.

Kalki took to social media to release a poster of the show. She wrote, “The truth often lies on the other side...#Bhram, coming this September on #ZEE5. #ItsAllABhram”

Netflix India to Roll out Cheaper Plans for Mobile-Only Users

On Wednesday, streaming giant Netflix announced that it would soon be rolling out a low-budget mobile-only subscription plan for its Indian users. The plan will be priced lower than its other subscription plans, which are much higher than that of other streaming platforms like Amazon and Hotstar.

The announcement was made along with the company’s quarterly results which showed that Netflix had additional subscribers were lower than the expected figure.
