The much-awaited trailer of Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath, starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan, has just been released. The film marks the Bollywood debut of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s daughter Sara Ali Khan.

Kedarnath is a love story set against the backdrop of the floods that wrecked the temple town and left thousands dead in June 2013. Shot along a 14-km pilgrimage from Gauri Kund to Kedarnath - the 2,000-year-old temple of Lord Shiva - the film plays out the relationship between Mansoor and Mukku played by Sushant and Sara respectively.

“Set against the backdrop of nature’s fury, Kedarnath is not an everyday love story. Shooting on virgin and undeveloped terrain was as thrilling as it was draining. This has made the journey to completion a well-earned reward. All thanks to the invaluable contributions of the entire cast and crew. We are all charged up about bringing Kedarnath to our audiences.”
Pragya Kapoor, Producer (in a statement)

The teaser shows the young couple’s budding love even as nature unleashes its wrath around them. Sara Ali Khan, while reminding us greatly of her mother Amrita, seems to have a strong screen presence.

Kedarnath is facing trouble after a senior BJP leader demanded a ban, alleging that the film hurts the sentiments of Hindus and promotes love jihad.

“By setting a romantic love story against the backdrop of a huge tragedy that occurred at Kedarnath, a centre of faith for crores of Hindus, the filmmakers have shown great disrespect to the followers of the religion” Ajay told PTI.

Objecting to the film depicting the love story of a Muslim porter and a Hindu pilgrim, Ajay said couldn't the makers of the film find a Hindu character for the lead.

Kedarnath releases on 7 December.
