After Sara Ali Khan’s confession about Kartik Aaryan on Koffee With Karan, the possibility of their pairing, both on and offscreen has been sending waves of excitement amongst fans. They were recently ‘introduced’ by cupid Ranveer Singh and were spotted blushing in a video.

To our delight, Filmfare reports that the two are set to star in Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal 2.

The film makes for a happy or ‘intended’ coincidence. Love Aaj Kal (2009) starred Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone.

The news was confirmed by Kartik, who told Mumbai Mirror:

“Yes, I am doing Imtiaz Sir’s next film. He is one of my favourite filmmakers and I have always wanted to work with him. I’m glad its finally happening.”

According to a source close in the developments, Saif was originally asked to be a part of the movie - to play a pivotal, older man’s role - similar to the one played by Rishi Kapoor in the original Love Aaj Kal, Mumbai Mirror reported.

However, when asked about this, Saif refuted the rumours and said that he was “happy to sell his stake and not be a part of the film”, the Mumbai Mirror report added. Soon after, news that Randeep Hooda had been roped in to play the pivotal role. Hooda had last worked with Imtiaz in Highway.

While Love Aaj Kal had been jointly produced by Saif and Dinesh Vijan, Love Aaj Kal 2 will be produced by Dinesh and Imtiaz. The film will largely be shot in Delhi and Punjab.

In Sara’s appearance on the sixth season of Koffee With Karan, Karan Johar asked her about whom she would like to marry and who she’d like to date. Sara replied that Ranbir Kapoor is who she’d like to be married to but she wanted to date Kartik Aaryan. Since then the media has been abuzz with everything that brings the two together.

Sara made her debut in December 2018 with Kedarnath. Her second film Simmba opposite Ranveer Singh hits theatres on 28 December. Kartik Aaryan’s Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety made waves at the box office this year. Meanwhile, Kartik’s Luka Chuppi released in theatres on 1 March. He is also on-board Mudassar Aziz’s Pati Patni Aur Woh remake.
