If your point about “eugenics” was true, I would be a farmer back home, writes Kangana Ranaut.

After Saif Ali Khan’s open letter clarifying his stance on nepotism on Friday, Kangana Ranaut penned one herself, to give her two cents to the debate.

In response to Saif’s comment about “breeding” the next generation of actors, Kangana Ranaut says she fails “to understand how you can compare genetically hybrid racehorses to artistes”.

The Queen actress goes on to add that if that were true, she would be a farmer back home.

Speaking about his “eugenics” comment, she said,

You also spoke of eugenics -- which means controlled breeding of the human race. So far, I believe that the human race hasn’t found the DNA that can pass on greatness and excellence. If it had, we would’ve loved to repeat the greatness of Einstein, Da Vinci, Shakespeare, Vivekananda, Stephen Hawking, Terence Tao, Daniel Day-Lewis, or Gerhard Richter.

She also addressed Saif’s attack on the media being the real flag-bearer of nepotism.

Nepotism is merely a weakness of the human nature; it takes great deal of will-power and strength to rise above our intrinsic nature -- sometimes we excel, sometimes we don’t. No one is putting a gun to anyone’s head to hire talent they don’t believe in.

The actor went on the add that the priviliged lot are the least to be blamed in this debate and she would encourage those who do not find acceptance in the mainstream to go off-beat or as she puts it, the “path less travelled”.

She signed off her letter by saying that we shouldn’t make peace with nepotism and keep striving for more.

The world is not an ideal place, and it might never be. That is why we have the industry of arts. In a way, we are the flag-bearers of hope.
