The trailer for Shahid Kapoor starrer Kabir Singh has released. The film is a remake of Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy and also stars Kiara Advani.
Check it out:
Donning shaggy hair and an unruly beard, Shahid plays the titular character Kabir Singh, a brash, alcoholic doctor who is quick to anger and is trying his best to forget Preeti (played by Kiara Advani), his former partner who is forced to marry someone else. A flashback offers a glimpse of a younger, sober Kabir falling in love with a fellow student in college.
The makers had earlier released a clip teasing Shahid’s character.
Talking about adapting Arjun Reddy for Bollywood, Shahid told PTI, “Creating a remake is damn tough. You have loved it for what it was but you can't go out there and copy it. It has to be a rediscovery...the original was Arjun Reddy, based in Hyderabad and Bangalore. This is Kabir Singh which is based in Delhi and Mumbai. May be Arjun and Kabir are cousins but they are not the same person. My journey is only to find Kabir Singh.”
In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Shahid opened up about the challenges he faced while preparing for the role. He had to gain around five or six kilos of weight during the initial shoot and then lose around 10 kilos to achieve the look for his role as a college student. “It took a lot out of me because not only does this character degenerate into a loner in a self-destructive mode, I had to also create three different silhouettes, one of which needed me to be out of shape. That upped the physical challenge but also needed mental conditioning because as actors we are used to showcasing ourselves in our best shape. Here, I wanted to look my worst for an honest portrayal,” he said.
Kabir Singh is directed by Sandeep Vanga and bankrolled by Bhushan Kumar, Murad Khetani, Krishan Kumar and Ashwin Varde. It hits theatres on 21 June.
