Even as many call for the film industry to boycott the 48th International film festival of India (IFFI) over recent controversies, Shah Rukh Khan inaugurated the festival in Goa midst much fanfare with Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani and Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar for company.
Opening with Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Clouds, which sees the international debut of Ishaan Khatter, the festival would be showcasing acclaimed films from across the globe over the next nine days. The festival will honour Amitabh Bachchan with Personality of the Year Award as well as pay homage to actors Om Puri, Vinod Khanna, Tom Alter, Reema Lagoo, directors such as Abdul Majid, Kundan Shah and Dasari Narayana Rao.
Shahid Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Sridevi are among other dignitaries present.
The festival’s closing ceremony would be graced by Salman Khan.
