Ajay Devgn is on a roll. In the past few weeks there have been quite a few announcements from the star. He is all set to play Chanakya in a Neeraj Pandey directorial. Then came the declaration of a biopic on football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Devgn followed it up with a poster of Helicopter Eela, a film that he’s producing along with Jayantilal Gada, and one that stars his wife, Kajol.
The film’s release is now preponed to 7 September from 14 September.
Featuring the National Award winning actor, Riddhi Sen amongst others, the film seems to be a take on helicopter parenting. Kajol plays the obsessive, over-protective mother hovering over her child played by Riddhi Sen.
“As a mother, I felt a real connection with Eela’s character. She loves her son unconditionally and has built her life around him. But as he grows up, she finds herself becoming more and more dispensable. She has also put her life and dreams on hold, like so many mother’s do. This is a life situation that so many women face once their kids grow up. And, one that I will inevitably face is, what do I do now? How do I hold on to my baby? In a way, Helicopter Eela is a coming of age film, more for Eela rather than it is for her son!”Kajol in a statement to The Indian Express
The parenting style, characterised by a helicopter-like attribute of hovering over children and swooping in to rescue them at the first sign of trouble would be a topic rife for millennials and their parents.
Ajay Devgn said that the ‘loving but difficult relationship between a mother and son’ drew him to the script. Directed by Pradeep Sarkar, the film is slated to release on 14 September, 2018.
