From Khilji to Simmba to Gully Boy, Ranveer Singh has come to exemplify range. The Zoya Akhtar directorial sees Ranveer Singh essaying the role of an aspiring rapper. Here’s the much awaited trailer.
The film is loosely based on desi rappers Naved Shaikh and Vivian Fernandes, aka Naezy and Divine, who have seen mainstream success since their song ‘Mere Gully Mein’ went viral in 2015. The two are known for their lyrics about growing up in Mumbai’s slums and their struggle to make a name for themselves.
While Ranveer Singh channels the voice of the streets, Alia Bhatt shines with her feisty lines in the trailer. It is also reminiscent of Eminem’s 8 Mile. Watch the trailer here:
Ahead of the trailer release, a new poster of the film featuring Ranveer and Alia Bhatt was unveiled.
The film also features Kalki Koechlin and Vijay Raaz. Gully Boy marks Ranveer and Zoya’s second collaboration after Dil Dhadakne Do in 2015. It releases on 14 February. Bankrolled by Tiger Baby and Excel Entertainment, the film is written by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti.
