Every neighbourhood has a bunch of nosy gossipmongers, voyeuristic drama queens and judgemental cynics, who love to say trash about others. Sometimes, the media can’t resist and joins the group, especially when it’s about celebrity grapevine.

Sensational melodrama follows, leading to more cheap talk, revealing a mindset so regressive that it is borderline creepy. I bet you judged the tabloids when they needlessly turned these events into scathing controversies, that were totally uncalled for. Tabloids and mohalle ki aunties, here’s a slow clap for you.

Taimur? Aye Haye Yeh Kaisa Naam Hai Bebo?

Trolls and the media went berserk when Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan decided to name their newborn son ‘Taimur’. While they couldn’t stop gushing over his ‘leaked’ pics, every Tom, Dick and Harry jumped onto the collective bandwagon of hate, to say that the celebrity couple shouldn’t name their little one after an infamous Mongol raider. It must’ve been horrid to be in the middle of a furore like this in their initial days of parenthood. By the way aunty ji, unke bachhe ka naam, sirf unki problem hai, aapki nahin.

Vidya, Family Way Mein Ho Kya?

Vidya Balan has been dealing with weight issues and she’s been candid enough to talk about her challenges. She is also a happily married woman, who does a stellar job of every character she plays. But one trip she made to her doctor sparked off rumours about her being pregnant. Hain? Can a woman not even gain a few kilos without being seen as a baby making machine, and setting tongues wagging? Nahin aunty ji, yeh family way mein nahin hain.

Oho, Kya Kamsin Kali Hai

Circulating, sharing, tweeting, publishing images of star kids in bikinis is eve-teasing at a whole new level. Was body shaming celebrities not enough that the media is now judging what their kids are wearing, that too on the beach? By the way aunty ji, Shah Rukh Khan, Shweta Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan are well aware of what their kids are up to and they don’t need you to spy on their little ones. Also, these kids are not celebrities. They’re young, sensitive, women enjoying their bodies. We all have the right to do that, don’t we aunty ji?

Married Ho Ya Divorced, Decide Toh Kar Lo

Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan are divorced, but some people just can’t digest the fact that they’re still a part of each other’s lives, possibly for the sake of their kids and old times. Tabloids are always shocked to spot them together at family holidays and birthday parties; shocked enough to have a headline reading- “Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan spotted together, yet again!” Get over it aunty ji! Maybe they’re still friends, or maybe they’re trying to co-exist given all the drama. Who knows and why should you judge? What is your problem with a man and a woman being friends, and being just that, before or after marriage?

Kangana Is Pahadi, Usse Kala Jadoo Aata Hoga

The media seriously lost the plot in the Kangana Ranaut-Hrithik Roshan controversy. First, they put the whole thing together from a quote as vague as- “I don’t know why exes do silly things to get your attention”. After blowing that completely out of proportion, they got one of her exes to spill the beans on her past. This ‘silly ex’ believed that she practiced black magic to control him, and everyone fell for it, because she’s a pahadi girl. No aunty ji, kala jaadoo is not really even a thing.
