A video of the making of Dream Girl reveals how Ayushmann Khurrana transformed into the female character of Pooja on screen.
Ayushmann will be seen portraying a woman in the film, as his character takes on the fake identity of Pooja, and answers phone calls on a hotline. From the local cop to his girlfriend’s brother, everybody is smitten by Dream Girl Pooja and her mesmerising voice.
In the video, talking about getting into the look whenever he had to dress up as a woman on screen - the hair, make-up and outfit, Ayushmann says, “I had to shave constantly. I think I took like three and a half hours to get ready.”
About doing a role that gave him the chance to stretch himself as an actor, Ayushmann says, “For the sake of entertainment I think you should go all out. You get an elbow room in a character where as an actor you can do a lot, and Pooja is that character. You are a guy and also a girl. You get the chance to imitate a female voice, have that body language.”
‘Dream Girl’ also stars Nushrat Bharucha, Vijay Raaz, Annu Kapoor, Manjot Singh, Abhishek Bannerjee, Rajesh Sharma, among others.
Getting the female voice right was a key element in getting the character right, so Ayushmann worked in the dubbing studio to get the voice that fit, even though the film was shot in sync sound.
Dream Girl also stars Nushrat Bharucha, Vijay Raaz, Annu Kapoor, Manjot Singh, Abhishek Bannerjee, Rajesh Sharma, among others.
Written and directed by Raaj Shandilya and produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, Dream Girl releases in theatres on 13 September.
