Ayushmann Khurrana is currently enjoying a dream run at the box office. The actor has had five consecutive hits in the last two years, and has had only one unsuccessful film (Meri Pyaari Bindu) since 2015, the year when the Dum Laga Ke Haisha turned out to be a sleeper hit.

According to movie business analyst, Atul Mohan, the buzz around Ayushmann’s next, Dream Girl, which releases this Friday, 13 September, is very good, and he expects the film to make at least Rs 75 crore at the box office.

According to Atul, the film is expected to have a good opening. “Opening day should be around Rs 10-12 crore, and the opening weekend could go up to Rs 36-40 crore, depending on how the audience responds to the film and the reviews.

So will Ayushmann continue his dream run with Dream Girl? The trade is positive that he will.

“Ayushmann has created an identity among audiences that whatever he is doing or choosing has to be something unique. People are assured because of his brand identity that a film he’s in has to be good.”

Ayushmann has had five back-to-back hits so far. After the lukewarm response to Meri Pyaari Bindu, Ayushmann’s next 2017 release Bareilly Ki Barfi (budget: Rs 23 crore) went on to make Rs 47 crore at the box office. Next, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (budget: Rs 25 crore) earned Rs 42.79 crore. In 2018, Andhadhun (budget: Rs 17 crore) earned Rs 74.32 crore and Badhaai Ho, which is his biggest hit so far, made Rs 176 crore at the box office. This year, Article 15 (Rs 25 crore) also became a hit by earning Rs 66 crore.

Ayushmann’s films also always have a controlled budget, and that helps everyone associated with the film earn profits. Dream Girl has been made on a budget of Rs 30 crore, and as of now, should release in around 1800-2000 screens.

To add to the tight budgets, he has also created a unique brand for himself, and the audience has come to trust his film choices over the last two years.

“People have liked the trailer and the song Radhe Radhe became an instant hit. Ayushmann has created an identity among audiences that whatever he is doing or choosing has to be something unique. People are assured because of his brand identity that a film he’s in has to be good. He has created that kind of space for himself,” says Atul.
